Pork Chop

Okay, I give up. Evan is big. Since the last post, I've had two friends tell me that they hate to "agree with the masses" on his size. I was just comparing him to my line of the family. Truthfully, he has steadily been measuring in the 25th percentile in length and 75th in weight on his doctor visits. I would be scared to see what 99th percentile boys looked like. Kaitlyn was always over 90 percent in both when she was that age, but that is also just compared to girls.

The knockdown blow was delivered last night when Kaitlyn called Evan "Pork Chop", which has been one of my dad's nicknames for him along with "Big E". So if this sticks and he has a complex, I'm holding all of you responsible.

Church and Football

We had two major happenings with our crew this weekend. First, though he had done it on occasion at home as well as at my parents, Evan rolled over at day care on Friday. Since then, it has been like somebody flipped a switch and that is all he is interested in doing. I think he is behind the curve on this milestone, but it seems that the bigger they are, the longer it takes them to get to the rolling, crawling and walking stages. And though we feel like he is a "good size", everybody else seems to think he is some kind of anomaly. The way I see it, the NFL is made up of well-paid anomalies. Next Sunday is Evan's first Super Bowl by the way. Bring on the appetizers.

So while Amanda and I are trying to keep Evan from rolling off and getting lost, Kaitlyn spends Saturday night with Nana and Papa, sleeping in her big bed over there for the first time. This all went well, and she went to Sunday School with Nana too... another first. She got rave reviews. She also was in no hurry to come home Sunday afternoon either.

More Firsts

Never a dull moment around the house. In local news, Evan is now sitting up. Not a pro at it yet, but making progress. Unfortunately, sitting up seems to encourage spitting up.

Kaitlyn had her first haircut yesterday. She got a special certificate complete with a lock of her hair. We had been warned this could be a traumatic experience and might require the presence of both parents. You can see from the photo how traumatized Kaitlyn apparently was with the situation.

Something All The Time

Today marks Kaitlyn's first week of having graduated from pull-ups... during the day at least. We are extremely excited and proud of her, though we will have to wean her off the reward of getting a sucker for making it through the day without an accident. Also excited to be able to starting saving on the expense of buying pull-ups.

Another interesting note this week. I don't think Kaitlyn's teacher is old enough to remember the 80s, but that didn't stop her from trying to bring them back. And for the record, this was not the hairstyle she had when we dropped her off at daycare.

Lastly, though he has been quite capable for some time, we have committed this week to making Evan hold his own bottle. This has been a challenge in itself.

Ringing in the New Year

Since we are terrible at writing all the firsts down of our kids and the crazy things they say and do, I decided to try to at least record it in a blog so family and friends could keep up to date as well. The most recent big news is that Evan spent 5 days in the hospital with RSV. He was finally discharged on Tuesday evening (Jan 6).

The day he went into the hospital (Cotton Bowl) he also had two teeth break through. Needless to say, 2009 has started off quite eventfully.

Fortunately, Kaitlyn is a very nurturing big sister (gets this from her mother) and is happy to flaunt Teddy Grahams in front of her brother and his new found teeth.
