A Wonderful Sound of Silence

Evan had his six-month checkup today. He weighed 18 lbs. 13 oz. and was 27 inches long. It was rather uneventful aside from it being the first time we've been to the doctor in almost six months that he wasn't wheezing. When I picked him up from daycare yesterday, I immediately noticed the unusual absence of any rattle or wheeze. We made it through today with that same tranquility (at least when Kaitlyn wasn't nearby). Amanda and I really haven't known how to act with this change, but are cautiously optimistic.

Needing Some Warm Weather

Evan had to stay home from daycare on Friday so he could get breathing treatments every two hours for his respiratory issues. Then Sunday Kaitlyn starts running a fever and gets sick that afternoon. I stayed out with her Monday and our doctor visit revealed she had strep. She was the third or fourth in her class to get it. As of Tuesday, six in her class had it. After an allergic reaction to her first antibotic, we finally got her on the mend and she was her normal chatty self by Tuesday while Amanda stayed home with her.

With Kaitlyn better and back at daycare on Wednesday, we took Evan to Memphis to a pulmonary specialist and didn't really get any answers on his respiratory issues. In a nutshell, the doctor confirmed that he was wheezing and set up several tests to be done at LeBohner next month. Though we hope to get some answers then, we really hope he will improve on his own as he gets older and with spring's warmer weather. They both prefer to be outside anyway.

Kaitlyn's quote of the week comes from a conversation with my mom (Nana) who had just taken her dog outside so he could relieve himself. Kaitlyn was hot on her heels, and the following dialog took place between the two of them on my parents back porch.

Nana: Kaitlyn, do you need to go potty too?
Kaitlyn: I'm not a dog!
Nana: I know, but do you need to go inside to potty?
Kaitlyn: I used to be a dog though.

Katilyn's Quotes of the Week

There is no telling what is going to come out of Kaitlyn's mouth these days. She is the comic relief around our house. The only sad part is since her one liners are so common and we are all busy living life, we often don't remember them very long. So in the spirit of my friend Rachel's short-lived but hilarious e-mails featuring her selections of "MySpace Pic of the Week", I'm going to try to keep up with Kaitlyn.

Yesterday when I picked her up from daycare our conversation went something like a blonde joke:

Kaitlyn: We went for a walk today!

Me: Really, did you go uptown?

Kaitlyn: No sir, we went to the Square.

Kaitlyn loves music. At two and a half, she is very efficient at operating the iPod function of my iPhone. We usually listen to one or two songs (her requests) on it every night after reading and just before she goes to sleep. "Chicken Fried" is a popular country song at the moment and one of her favorites. The lyrics are important in the upcoming quote so here is a link to them if you aren't familiar. She always puts in her various special song requests when we get in the car to go anywhere as well, which finally leads us to our favorite quote thus far in her short comedic career. On the way to school Friday, she says,

"Mom, I want cold beer on a Friday night."

No Turning Back

There is no question that having two little kids is much harder than having one. I believe it is even more the case when they are both this young and dependent in so many ways. And despite the fact that we often wonder about our sanity these days, I wouldn't go back if I could. I try not to even let myself say that I'll be glad when we get to a certain stage or milestone, because I've already come to realize how fast it all goes by.
