Big Weekend

Kaitlyn had fun at Swayze's birthday party at the fire station on Saturday.

Checking out the fire truck

Kaitlyn is ready for Evan to get big enough to ride with her.

Evan's first try in the swing. Hanging on tight.

Okay, I like it. Faster Dad!

Serious Appetite

Evan apparently has entered a growth spurt, but for some reason, it is in overdrive. A little over a week ago he went from eating four (small) jars of baby food a day and three bottles of formula to seven jars a day. We quickly cut out one bottle of formula, but still. We are working to substitute with soft, normal foods, but he is still just operating with only two bottom teeth. That didn't stop him from enjoying a pancake Sunday morning though. He also likes yogurt and knows what to do with the spoon. Scary... At this rate, we may be on welfare soon.

Drama Queen

Kaitlyn and Evan went to Nana's and Papa's
for Nana's world famous spaghetti
(or ba-sketti as Kaitlyn calls it).

Some recent one liners from Kaitlyn.

"Dad, I'm gonna take our 4-wheeler out to Uncle Mike's and you can ride it when you get big like me."

"Ms. Marsha said Kaitlyn was a drama queen, but I'm not a drama queen."

Marsha is one of Kaitlyn's teachers. Of course Kaitlyn doesn't know what drama queen means, but that is about as accurate a description as somebody could give lately. Amanda and I both hope it is a short-lived stage.

Road Trip

Evan took a road trip to Birmingham this weekend with Mom and Dad to see the U.S. take on the Swiss in the Davis Cup. We expected him to do fairly well, but he really surprised us. On Friday he sat calmly though nearly 6 hours of tennis, and we were able to watch both Andy Roddick and James Blake play all of their matches. We went back on Saturday to see the Bryan bothers win the doubles. The U.S. took the weekend 4-1 overall and advanced to the quarterfinals.

Glad We're Not Single Parents

This weekend was one to really make us wonder how single parents ever manage multiple kids. Evan seemed to be getting sick Thursday night but made it through the day on Friday without any calls from daycare. Amanda was picking up pizza Friday evening, but before she even got home, Kaitlyn walked into the kitchen where I was getting Evan's supper ready and proceeded to throw up... everywhere. I just had finished cleaning up when Amanda got home, so she took over with Kaitlyn and I proceeded to feed Evan. Just as he was finishing his second jar of baby food, he lost all of that. Sunday night now and Kaitlyn is still sick, but at least she is sleeping. Evan is much better but not back to normal either. Our hopes that this was a 12- or 24-hour bug faded long ago.

On a lighter note, Kaitlyn did provide us with another good quote before all this started on Friday. This one came from one of her school projects where they start a phrase or song and let each kid fill in their own ending. As you can see below, sometimes a picture is worth the words written on it.

It also snowed Saturday afternoon and night, which was Evan's first. Though he really isn't old enough to play in it and it was too cold for him to be out long, we checked it out.
