The Big 3....

Yep, no 3-0 here. Just 3. After stressing about Kaitlyn's birthday and planning a birthday for Evan with some other friends that completely fell apart, we resorted to the First Baptist CLC. I must confess, this was an excellent fall back and will likely be at the top of our birthday party list of ideas for quite some time.... like next year. Jim and I decorated the CLC dining area while Evan and his classmates played ball and chase in the gym. We had cupcakes and ice cream for everyone and then a Buzz Lightyear pinata to entertain the kids. After school, we opened presents at the house. He loves a birthday. Well, he loves his birthday. Not so much anyone elses.

Evan and Rex roaring together.

Obsessed with Toy Story. And while he's obsessed, Kaitlyn will "help" him with his other presents.

Finally, something other than Toy Story. And he looks happy. Maybe.

First Day of School

Although Kaitlyn attended Bramlett last year for Pre-K, her real first day of school was Kindergarten 2011. She is in Mandy James' class, and she knows a few of the kids in there with her. I can only hope that Kindergarten is not like Pre-K where she cried everyday of the first semester--yes, every single day. My fingers are crossed.

Same Old Same Old Summer Fun

This year Kaitlyn really took off with her swimming. She is so comfortable in the water that she hardly ever uses any of her floats, jumps off the diving board at birthday parties, and helps me try to teach Evan how to swim: together, point, shoot is our mantra. Instead of signing Evan up for swim lessons, I decided I'd give it a try. Over the course of the summer, he has gotten better...marginally. But I'm gonna keep at it, and we'll see how it goes this summer and next.

More important (to him) are things like trucks and buckets as you can see from these conversation excerpts I've had with him: "Mama, are you going to buy me another truck?" "I just bought you a new truck. You have it right there in your hand." Raising the empty hand, "I know, but this hand needs one." Or this, in response to the typical "what did you do at school today" question: "I had a bucket on my head and the shovel was my sword so the bear wouldn't get me."
